Kristie is currently serving as the Health and Safety Officer for Lansing Community College. She has worked in the Emergency Management & Safety Services Department at LCC in various capacities since her career began in November 2007. Her experience in the emergency management and occupational safety field spans more than 7 years. Kristie currently serves as a board member for Do1Thing as well as special committee member for Do1Thing Kids.

Kristie is credited with creating and maintaining a college wide program at Lansing Community College known as B.E.R.T. (Building Emergency Response Team). B.E.R.T. is a group of college employees who volunteer to obtain additional training and function as lay responders to augment campus emergency management and campus police when emergencies occur on LCC campuses. These members assist with various evacuation and shelter procedures and are all Red Cross trained and certified in First Aid/CPR/AED response. The B.E.R.T. program currently has 50 plus members and is ever growing and expanding. This has proven to be a valuable resource during emergencies, incidents, and special events at LCC.

Additionally, Kristie has been and continues to be a driving force for life safety equipment upgrades and campus health and safety programs at Lansing Community College. She is currently overseeing a campus wide fire alarm system upgrade project as well as a campus wide AED (automated external defibrillator) installation project which has added 30 AEDs to various buildings and locations on LCC’s campuses over the past two years. She is also working on the creation of a college wide ergonomics program that will benefit employee health and reduce work related injuries.

Kristie holds two Associate degrees from Lansing Community College in General Education and Criminal Justice. Kristie also holds a Bachelor degree in Applied Science with concentration in Public Safety from Siena Heights University. Kristie is currently pursuing a Master’s in Organizational Leadership from Siena Heights University and she is enrolled in the Michigan program to obtain certification as a Professional Emergency Manager.

Kristie holds certifications and various training from FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency), Michigan State Police, NFPA (National Fire Protection Association), American Red Cross, OSHA (Occupational Safety & Health Administration), Michigan State University, TEEX (Texas Engineering Extension Service), New Mexico Tech, Michigan Center for Truck Safety, and various other professional organizations. Her knowledge and experience spans a wide range of concentrations relating to safety and emergency management. Kristie is a member in good standing with NFPA and MEMA (Michigan Emergency Management Association). She also possesses a CDL (commercial driver’s license) Class A, with air brake, passenger, tanker, and double/triples endorsements.
